  1. Indicate author/publisher and date of layers

It is not included in the metadata, don't know if its specific to my project or to Seasketch.
Would be usefull after a few years to evaluate the need to update the data, or for users to check their data.

  3. Make it possible to change colours of different layers.

For the Marine Planning Partnership in BC, I would like a more interactive tool where I can select polygon or polyline colours, point size and thickness, and label size and placement. I find some of the colours a little counter-intuitive (e.g., dark red is 'good'). Sometimes a different colour scheme would be better for displaying single or multiple layers. Thank you.

  4. Email Notification

It would be great if a user could sign up for an email notification anytime another agency expresses interest in a specified area of interest. For example, unless I check the SeaSketch website on a regular basis, I won't know if BLM or USFWS or FEMA is interested in gathering data in USFS Region 4. It would be great if I could indicate my area of interest in SeaSketch (USFS Region 4) and then receive an email anytime someone uploads a proposed project area or an expression of interest that overlaps with that identified geographic extent.

  5. Highlight Layer

When working with multiple layers the maps often become "muddy" where as layers are hidden in between and underneath layers. Although you can bring important layers forward, more complex maps will always hide some layer to some extent. When you're viewing data layers, it would be helpful to be able to click on a layer and have it highlight in the map (like in the traditional ArcGIS.

  6. Provide a means to duplicate fields within in a survey

    1. Multiple survey questions have the same three options to choose from, so it would be great to be able to duplicate the "choices" field under each question. For example, most of the questions in my current survey have three choices: continue, discontinue, or modify.

    2. When I update the different choices, to say "continue, discontinue, or modify" sometimes they don't "stick" even after I hit save. They revert back to "choice a, b, and c" and I end up needing to reenter them.

Otherwise I love the survey features and you guys are awesome!

    Morgan,

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve logged the bug with respect to choices that don’t stick. With respect to duplicating choices, the way you can work around this for now is by creating the template you want (i.e., the list of choices), then downloading that as a CSV. Then, just upload that same CSV when creating a new question with the same choices. If that doesn’t make sense, come visit me and I’ll show you how.

  7. Change interpretation of coordinates in "search for location" box

Currently, the search bar can either find known, named geographic features (cities, etc.), or points defined by coordinates in decimal degrees. However, instead of the standard format of Lat, Long, the search bar interprets pairs of values as Long, Lat (which is consistent with how we think about X,Y coordinates, but not the convention for geographic coordinates).

For example, entering "34.405173, -119.844934" into Google Maps brings you to UCSB, but zooms to Poland in SeaSketch.

Would it be possible to change the way the search bar interprets coordinate pairs?

  8. Movable Attribute Table

After identifying a feature in a layer, it would be nice if you could move the table to the side to see the features that have been identified. Sometimes the features are obscured by the popup table.

  9. Add a percent completion indicator for surveys.

It would be good if users knew how close they were to finishing a survey as they worked.

  10. Provide a means to duplicate surveys.

Some surveys are very elaborate and if they are to be duplicated by hand (e.g., to have the same survey in more than one language) this can be very labor intensive. Being able to duplicate surveys in some automated fashion would be very helpful.

  11. Provide a means to enter the name of somebody to attach to a comment.

When entering comments into a user forum for somebody at a consultation or public meeting, it would be good to quickly associate that comment with their name. Furthermore, it would be good to be able to filter all the message by the name of the individual who made the comment.

  12. Make it possible to view/download entire attributes tables for certain layers

We have had some members who would find it useful to access the entire attributes table of some layers.

Examples of where it would be particularly useful are when looking at site specific information for Marine Protected Areas. It would make it possible to view details such as area / type of habitat / designation type of polygons. Similarly it could be used to quickly get the coordinates and further details such as surveyor, date, habitat / species observed, gear type used etc. from a list of survey points.

  13. Provide an option to minimise or hide the data layers and other tabs.

The area on the right, with the tabs for data layers, plan, participate, that covers up part of the map is helpful when looking for layers, etc, but would be good also to just have a full view of the planning area with whatever layers are selected.

We have found that some members would like to be removed. The admin tools don't provide the ability to remove a member.

  15. A whole list of suggestions

    1) Would it be possible to order responses to a survey by date OR alphabetically so that new responses can easily be located? Having it only as alphabetically makes it difficult to identify new responses and this will only become more of a problem when there are more responses.

    2) Would it be possible to create a 'zoom to layer' function for the areas created in a survey? Because some people are concerned about very small areas (dolphinariums etc.) it can be very difficult to find their area of concern when looking at a map of the whole world.

    3)…

  16. Add multi-language capabilities.

The user may choose amongst several standard language interfaces and the discussion forums would include real-time translation services via the Google Translate API.

  17. Use WMS

It would be great if SeaSketch could consume WMS services published from GeoServer.

  18. Scale dependant data indicator

It would be helpful if scale dependent data were indicated as such in the data layers for your project.
